Exciting news from City journal! We are thrilled to announce the appointment of two new editors to our esteemed journal, City: Hanna Bauman and Tatiana Acevedo Guerrero. Following an extensive search, selection process, and reviewing 25 impressive applications, we are confident that their varied expertise, passion, and creativity will contribute to City’s ongoing commitment to the critical analysis and radical change of urban life.
hanna baumann is an interdisciplinary urban scholar with a background in architecture, art, and migration studies. Her research focuses on urban displacement, citizenship, and infrastructural disconnect in Middle Eastern and European cities shaped by (forced) migration. Hanna’s dedication to participatory and creative methods, experience in curating exhibitions, and collaborations with artists and urban activists will enrich our journal and inspire new public events.
tatiana acevedo guerrero is an accomplished urban researcher committed to social justice with a keen interest in water politics, urban inequalities, and everyday struggles in cities of the may global south. Her work explores the relationships between infrastructures, citizenship, health, and state power. Tatiana’s advocacy for engaging with divergent voices and her experience in working with grassroots organizations will strengthen City’s mission to weave theory and analysis into the fabric of everyday experience and struggle.
While welcoming Hanna and Tatiana, we look forward to the fresh perspectives and ideas they bring to City’s editorial team. Their dedication to fostering collaborations and expanding the journal’s reach beyond the academy will contribute to City’s ongoing evolution and growth. During the selection process, we engaged in intense debates and introspection, focused on our journal’s commitment to social, racial, environmental, and gender justice. As a result, we are also excited to invite several outstanding applicants, including paroj banerjee (UK), fernanda eiras rubio (Brazil), ashraful alam (New Zealand), damien carrière (France), john stehlin (USA), sharda rozena (uk), sushmita pati (India), and sam burgum (UK), and tang min (france; china; japan) to join the City collective and contribute their expertise and passion.
We are launching a new initiative, “Majority Urbanisms,” aimed at fostering deeper engagement among our collective members. As we embark on this new chapter, we express our gratitude to Brandi T. Summers for her invaluable service and are delighted to announce that Debbie Humphry will stay on board to work as the editor of our scenes sounds action section.
